Chemzoo

FAQ

1. What is ChemZoo?
ChemZoo is a hands-on chemistry outreach program designed to bring engaging science experiments and activities to underserved schools. Our goal is to spark curiosity and foster a love for chemistry among students by introducing them to the wonders of chemical reactions, scientific exploration, and critical thinking through fun, interactive sessions.
The ChemZoo program is led by a team of volunteers passionate about chemistry education. We partner with schools, teachers, and community organizations to bring our program to students in elementary schools.
ChemZoo is open to students in underserved schools who are interested in learning more about chemistry. Currently, we are focusing on elementary students.
Each session will feature a unique chemistry experiment designed to be safe, educational, and engaging. Examples include creating colorful chemical reactions, observing changes in pH, learning about density with layered liquids, and more.
We hold ChemZoo sessions once a month at each participating school. Sessions typically last about an hour, allowing students plenty of time to explore, experiment, and ask questions.
ChemZoo sessions will take place on-site at each participating school. This approach allows students to experience hands-on learning in a familiar environment.
Safety is our top priority. All experiments are chosen with safety in mind and are conducted using non-toxic, child-safe materials. Students will be provided with any necessary safety equipment, such as gloves and goggles, and are given safety instructions before each experiment.
There are no specific requirements for students other than a desire to learn and explore! We aim to create an inclusive, supportive environment where every student feels welcome to participate and enjoy chemistry.
